Symbian As A Smartphone OS: The Features

Symbian is an operating system as well as a computing platform for smartphones, Symbian is actually the replacement of other Operating Systems, Symbian OS and Nokia Series 60. Like other Operating Systems , the Symbian had many versions and currently they are on Symbian Belle/Symbian Anna. These were released in September 2011 with supported platforms of ARM and x86. Symbian has some pretty impressive features; some you will find with other smartphones and others will have more technology than other phones.

Browser: The Symbian uses a WebKit; a WebKit is a layout design engine that allows web browsers to render web pages. They were the first mobile phone OS to use the WebKit back in June of 2005. There are some older models that use Opera Mobile as their default browser on their mobile phones. When Nokia releases the Symbian Anna, the browser will have faster speed and a new user interface.

User Interface: The User Interface of the Symbian OS has been the AVKON, which is more commonly known as Series 60. This system was designed to be manipulated with a keyboard interface such as the 15 key augmented phone keypad. Nokia does recommend that all developers use the Qt Quick with QML; also the high level GUI and scripting framework uses touch screen technology.

Some of the other features offered are equally impressive as well. Let's check out more of the Symbian Belle OS.

Some of the Nokia Phones that are equipped with the Symbian Belle is Nokia 700; this phone is Nokia's smallest smartphone. It measures in at 50 cubic centimeters. It is the most compact touch phone in the Symbian family. This phone has a single tap Near Field Communications sharing and pairing qualities. This phone has a 1 Ghz processor and a 3.2 inch screen with ClearBlack Display. It is equipped with a 5 MP fully focused camera with LED Flash.
